My Role at Acid87 – Designing Apparel That Speaks to the Underground
As the graphic designer behind Acid87, I help bring the brand’s underground club culture ethos to life through bold, statement-driven apparel design. My work is rooted in visual storytelling that channels the raw energy of the '80s and '90s rave scene — filtered through a modern lens.
Drawing from Acid87’s inspiration — the iconic "Acid Track" of 1987, the DIY spirit of youth culture, and the unmistakable squelch of the Roland 303 — I create T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies that feel both nostalgic and fresh. Each design is a tribute to rave history while staying sharply in tune with today's club scene.
I focus on era-defining quotes, retro rave graphics, and bold typography, often using distressed textures and analog-inspired palettes to recapture the vibe of vintage flyers, record sleeves, and warehouse visuals. Every piece is designed to stand out on dance floors from DC10 to Berghain — not just as clothing, but as a statement of identity.
Seeing artists like Heidi, Solardo, Maya Jane Coles, and Richy Ahmed wear Acid87 gear — or spotting it in the crowd on Boiler Room streams — confirms we’re doing something special. My goal is always to design wearable art that connects deeply with people who live and breathe club culture.
